JULY 19, 2008: FREE HOME CLINIC at CAMP PENDLETON (30)
HOC presented a HOME Clinic at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, CA. Over 60 persons attended this Clinic, and over 31 families received individual counseling from HUD approved housing agencies, from volunteer attorneys and from mortgage counselors. Over 40 professional vounteers counseled homeowners who are facing difficulties making monthly mortgage payments. Information about local legal services, Fair Housing,FHA Secure, and other information were given to homeowners. Retired Bankruptcy Judge John J. Hargrove gave a presentation on the CARE program joined by Springboard consumer credit management. -
JULY 13, 2008: FREE HOME CLINIC at SAN DIEGO CONVENTION CENTER (46)
In collaboration with National Council La Raza, HOC presented a HOME Clinic at the San Diego Convention Center, Exhibit Hall C. Over 600 homeowners attended this Clinic, and over 350 families received individual counseling from HUD approved housing agencies, from volunteer attorneys and from mortgage counselors.Members of the San Diego County Bar Association assisted with counseling the distressed homeowners who faced foreclosure.Information about local legal services, Fair Housing,FHA Secure, and other information were given to homeowners. National Council La Raza gave educational presentations on credit/budget management and financial awareness. -
June 28, 2008: FREE HOME CLINIC IN OCEANSIDE (39)
On Saturday, June 28, 2008, at New Song Community Church in Oceanside,over 35 professional volunteers counseled 78 families having difficulty keeping their home. Over 110 persons attended the event. Members of the San Diego County Bar Association assisted with counseling the distressed homeowners. HUD approved housing counseling agencies and mortgage counselors reviewed homeowners' options. Fair Housing,FHA Secure, and other information were given to homeowners. Presentation on Bankruptcy and Foreclosure were presented by Attorney John Brady and Attorney Ruben Arizmendi. San Luis Rey Catholic Parish and New Song Community Church assisted in conducting this HOME Clinic. -
June 18, 2008: Housing Workshop on RESPA and TILA (6)
Real Estate Law Attorney Lincoln Quintana, presented "Is there Truth in Lending?" housing workshop on Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act and Truth In Lending Act. 20 housing counselors and mortgage professionals attended this workshop held at the San Diego HUD Field Office, an event in recognition of National Homeownership Month. -
June 11, 2008: Housing Workshop "GOT TAXES?" (10)
Tax and Real Estate Law Attorney Jason Turner, presented "Got Taxes?" housing workshop on foreclosure problems and tax obligations. 29 housing counselors and mortgage professionals attended this workshop held at the San Diego HUD Field Office, an event in recognition of National Homeownership Month. -
June 14, 2008: FREE HOME CLINIC IN SAN DIEGO (30)
On Saturday, June 14, 2008, at the Hall of Justice in San Diego, over 35 professional volunteers counseled 83 families having difficulty keeping their home. Over 101 persons attended the event. Members of the San Diego County Bar Association assisted with counseling the distressed homeowners. HUD approved housing counseling agencies and mortgage counselors reviewed homeowners' options. Fair Housing,FHA Secure, and other information were given to homeowners. -
May 31, 2008: Free HOME Clinic in Heber, Imperial Valley (24)
Home Owner Mobile Education (HOME) Clinic at Church Hall in Heber, Imperial Valley, offering one-stop counseling for homeowners facing foreclosure. Over 35 persons attended educational sessions and 23 families received individual counseling with housing counselors, mortgage counselors, and volunteer attorneys. Congressman Bob Filner hosted this community service event. -
May 10, 2008: FREE HOME Clinic in Escondido (38)
On 5-10-08 at the Joslyn Senior Center in Escondido,over 50 professional volunteers counseled 36 families having problems paying their home mortgage. Over 72 persons attended the event. Members of the San Diego County Bar Association assisted with counseling the distressed homeowners. HUD approved housing counseling agencies and mortgage counselors reviewed homeowners' options. Fair Housing,FHA Secure, and other information were given to homeowners. -
April 22, 2008: Housing Workshop on "All about Short Sales" (4)
On April 22, 2008, 25 representatives of nonprofit housing counseling agencies and community organizations gathered at the San Diego HUD Field office to hear Real Estate Attorney Gary Laturno discuss short sales and describe options for homeowners having trouble making monthly mortgage payments. -
April 16, 2008: Housing Workshop on Fair Housing for Persons With Disabilities (15)
Mary Scott Knoll, Executive Director of the Fair Housing Council of San Diego, presented "Fair Housing for Persons with Disabilities" to 22 housing counselors, mortgage professionals, attorneys, and staff members of community organizations. This housing workshop was held at the San Diego HUD Field Office in celebration of National Fair Housing Month. -
April 12, 2008: FREE HOME CLINIC at Smart Money Summit, Community Concourse (75)
On 4-12-08, at the Smart Money Summit at the San Diego Community Concourse, over 400 persons attended educational sessions and visited booths staffed by community agencies, financial institutions and government agencies. 183 families facing foreclosures received individual counseling from HUD approved housing counseling agencies, from mortgage counselors and from volunteer attorneys. -
April 3, 2008: Housing Workshop on "Negotiating Loan Modifications" (11)
On April 3, 2008, Attorney Ashley Abano, presented information on how to negotiate home loan modifications. A crowd of 85 housing counselors, realtors, agents, and housing agency staff attended this workshop. -
March 8, 2008: HOME Clinic at North Island Naval Base (26)
Home Owner Mobile Education (HOME)Clinic at the North Island Naval Base, offering one-stop location of counseling services for active and retired military homeowners facing foreclosure. HOC offered educational sessions on credit managementand the foreclosure & bankruptcy process. Over 125 individuals attended this clinic, and 76 families received one-on-one counseling. -
Feb. 15, 2008: FREE Home Clinic at San Diego Community Concourse (39)
Home Owner Mobile Education (HOME)Clinic at the Community Concourse in downtown San Diego, offering one-stop shop counseling for homeowners facing foreclosure. HOC offered educational sessions on C.A.RE., TILA/RESPA, credit management, and Bankruptcy Process. Over 125 individuals attended this clinic, and 78 families received one-on-one counseling. -
January 24, 2008: HOC Housing Workshop on Realtors/Agents (5)
Housing counselors and staff of social service agencies gathered to listen to Attorney John McConnin as he discussed the roles and responsibilities of Realtors and Agents. The class also reviewed real estate transaction documents and disclosure laws. -
January 17, 2008: Housing Workshop on Mortgage Loans (8)
Housing counselors attended this HOC sponsored Housing Workshop on Mortgage Loans. The Instructors were Victoria Johnson (California Association of Mortgage Brokers) and Yamila Ayad (National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals). -
FREE HOME CLINIC, City of San Diego -- December 8, 2007 (24)
Home Owner Mobile Education (HOME) Clinic at Willie Henderson Sports Complex in San Diego, offering one-stop shop counseling for homeowners facing foreclosure. Over 50 persons attended educational sessions and 25 persons received one-to-one counseling with housing counselors, mortgage counselors, and volunteer attorneys. -
San Diego Region Housing Summit -- December 5, 2007 (18)
Over 60 real estate industry professionals gathered for this HOusing Summit sponsored by the Housing Opportunities Collaborative. The Summit discussed housing market conditions and featured Nancy West, HUD Santa Ana Homeownership Center Outreach and Marketing Specialist. -

Home Owner Mobile Education (HOME)Clinic at Ronald Reagan Community Center in El Cajon, offering one-stop shop counseling for homeowners facing foreclosure. HOC offered educational sessions on TILA/RESPA, credit management, FHA Secure, and Bankruptcy Process. Over 125 individuals attended this clinic, and 62 families received one-on-one counseling. -
Mini HOME Clinic, City of El Cajon -- October 20, 2007 (4)
This Mini HOME Clinic was conducted as part of the El Cajon CDC Homebuyers Fair at the Ronald Reagan Community Center. Over 12 families received one-on-one counseling about homeownership and about foreclosure prevention. -
HOME CLINIC, City of Chula Vista -- September 29, 2007 (40)
Home Owner Mobile Education (HOME)Clinic at MAAC Community Charter School in City of Chula Vista, offering one-stop shop counseling for homeowners facing foreclosure. A representative from Department of Real Estate explained how to file a complaint about a real estate professional. HOC also presented educational sessions on Tax Law, Bankruptcy Law, and Landlord-Tenant Law. Over 300 individuals attended this clinic, and 145 families received one-on-one counseling. -

Foreclosure Prevention Training by NeighborWorks America, sponsored by Housing Opportunities Collaborative held at MAAC Project in National City, California. Over 35 housing counselors from the San Diego region attended this training. -
HOME CLINIC in City of Oceanside -- August 25, 2007 (26)
Home Owner Mobile Education (HOME)Clinic at Oceanside Library Community Rooms in City of Oceanside, offering one-stop shop counseling for homeowners facing foreclosure. HOC also presented educational sessions on Foreclosure Law, Consumer Protection Law, and Credit Management. 65 families received one-on-one counseling and over 100 persons attened the educational sessions. -

Home Owner Mobile Education (HOME)Clinic at Tubman Chavez Multicultural Center in San Diego offering one-stop shop counseling for homeowners facing foreclosure. HOC also presented educational sessions on Foreclosure Law, Consumer Protection Law, and Credit Management. 41 families received one-on-one counseling and over 100 persons attended the educational sessions. -
San Diego Region Homeownership Summit -- June 13, 2007 (38)
Housing Summit with Gregory Smith, San Diego County Recorder/Assessor, as main speaker on the rising number of foreclosures in the San Diego region. Nick Kufasimes, Cal HFA, and Robert McMahon from Guild Mortgage spoke about Cal HFA loans and about programs for persons with disabilities. Community Housing Works presented case studies on foreclosure prevention. -

Home Owner Mobile Education (HOME) Clinic at East Valley Community Center in Escondido offering one-stop-shop counseling for homeowners facing difficulties making mortgage payments. HOC presented educational sessions on Credit Management, Landlord-Tenant Law, Family Law, and Bankruptcy Process. 30 families received one-on-one counseling and 75 persons attended the educational sessions. -
FORECLOSURE PREVENTION TRAINING -- May 29, 2007 (7)
Homeownership Preservation training for housing counselors. Over 40 representatives of housing counseling agencies, credit counseling agencies, and city representatives attended this event. The training covered loss mitigation, fair housing laws, predatory lending, and consumer protection. -
Smart Money Summit -- April 14, 2007 (17)
This financial education and homeownership summit was held in the San Diego Community Concourse. Numerous financial institutions and nonprofit housing-financial counseling agencies gave information. There were education sessions on homebuying, credit management, and saving. The San Diego Reinvestment Task Force took the lead in coordinating this event. Housing Opportunities Collaborative gave information about various first time homebuying programs and about upcoming HOME clinics. -
